Anyone know of a good place to keep a server?

It will mostly be used for a web server with light to moderate traffic.
They're will also be some light file transfer occurring on a nightly
basis. A typical file might be 200 KB and there might be as many as 100
of these files a month that would need to be transfered. So I'll
guesstimate that somewhere between 20MB to 100MB per month transfered.

I would prefer a local place, but I'd be willing to go out of state as
long as I knew the company was good to deal with.

I haven't looked very hard, but the only local place I could find was Visi
and I didn't want to hock up the several hundred $$/month. I'm sure
they're a good service, but for right now I don't need anything with tons
of bandwidth... just something simple.

Thanks,
Eric

I've never had a problem working with GoldenGate. Their datacenter in
Fridley looked impressive to me. Used to have a box over there.

don't know what their prices are or how they compare to visi.

I'm guessing that the replies will be something along the lines of:
Real Time, Sihope, and Visi. ;)

You could also run it off your own DSL or Cable. I have Comcast, and they
don't seem to mind that I've been running a webserver testing new site
stuff for the past few months. I'm not don't constant traffic, so YMMV
there. ;)

Of course you don't get the support and enviorment you would get with a
real colo...but that's also what drives the cost of the colo up...

G'luck with whatever your project is and whatever you decide. :)

I used to use CoreComm (was PClink a long time ago). I had totally
awesome service with them! The only reason I quit with them is that I
host all servers now myself. Basic web hosting is $20 per month. You can
check them out at: http://www.pclink.com

I've checked out http://www.atomic-colo.com and they seem like a pretty
reasonable establishment. Their rates are about $75/month for "something
simple" like you said you require. They're in St. Paul.

Tell them I sent you if you talk to them. I'd like them to know I speak
well of them even though I haven't used their service yet.

So I think I'm either going to try rimuhosting.com or host the server at
friends house.

My other option is to setup my own office somewhere. Does anyone know of
geek friendly office space (200 -400 sq. ft.)? It would be ideal if the
office had some sort of internet sharing deal and offered computer
friendly fire supression. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but anything's
possible, right?

Later,
EP
